The Vegas Project

We have a bunch of people moving to Vegas to be on staff or to be volunteer leaders in the church. Most have homes they need to sell before moving. Some have done so, but there are still a few people who need to do this. Please pray that they will be able to sell their homes quickly and at good prices.

Part of our plan for connecting and discipling people are Guerrilla Groups.  These groups will be somewhat like typical small groups, but with more of an outward focus and a huge community service element.  Please pray that our groups are incredibly effective in connecting and discipling the people God gives us, and in serving Las Vegas.

Las Vegas has a lot of Latino people.  We want them to feel comfortable in our church.  One of the things that helps people feel comfortable is when they see someone like them.  We would love to have a Latino man or woman to lead worship or play guitar in a band.  Please pray that God provides!

The University of Nevada at Las Vegas has about 27,000 students and is located about three miles from the location where we’re hoping to meet on Sundays. College is such an important time – a time when many kids who grew up in church lose their faith – a time when young people are making decisions about who they are and what their lives will be about. We would love to connect with students at UNLV and have many of them attend our church. Please pray for that. Also, there’s a college ministry I (Vince) am associated with, and I am praying that they will establish a campus ministry at UNLV, and that we’ll be able to help them.

We have several musicians already on our Launch Team, but still aren’t quite where we need to be to do what we want to do music wise.  This is especially true because we plan to have services on Sunday morning AND Tuesday evenings.

Please pray that God provides more people for our bands.  It looks like we’ll especially be needing drummers and bass guitarists…

We will be expanding the site as we get closer to launch and after we start having services (adding pages on our Children’s Ministry, Message Podcasts, etc.).

For now … most people use a church’s website as their first impression. They will check out your website before they decide whether they’re going to come. So please pray that our website does its job in convincing people that we’re a church worth checking out.

Please pray that God gives an incredible sense of unity from the earliest days and throughout the future of our church.  Pray that our unity is based on having the same Spirit and a common mission.

Some people think we’re crazy for making this big move and starting a church on “Main Street” of Sin City, but our vision is actually bigger and targeted to reach those even more caught in sin than that. Our hope is that we will learn from our experience and grow in our effectiveness in reaching and discipling people who are living in sin-soaked surroundings, many of whose lives and even livelihoods are enmeshed in sin.

As we do we want to have church-planter interns who are working alongside us. And then as they become prepared, we want to send them out to start new churches on the most sinful streets in the world. Streets that Christians have generally forsaken and ,therefore, have an even greater need for the presence of Jesus. Imagine evangelistically-effective churches changing the face of Bourbon Street in New Orleans, the De Wallen area of Amsterdam, Sixth Street in Austin, King Street in Melbourne, Australia, Piotrkowska Street in Lodz, Poland, and on and on. Please pray for that!

You may know that we’ve had quite a few people who have decided to move to Vegas to be a part of launching this new church on the Vegas Strip.  What you may not know is that there are still several people who are still praying about doing that.  For all of them it’s a major and difficult decision.

Please pray that God will guide them and that they’ll know what to do and make the right decision.

Sam and Cherie moved from Virginia Beach to Las Vegas to help start Verve, and they’ve already been an invaluable part of our team.  They are both talented musicians and will serve in our church in all kinds of ways. Please pray that God prepares them and then uses them in a powerful way. Pray that they stay focused on and close to Jesus throughout this entire journey.
